Exciting opportunities, due to expansion, to join Aitken Scientific Ltd, a leading software development company based in Thame, Oxfordshire. We provide a specialist service for automating systems, laboratory equipment and production control.

We are looking for people who would enjoy writing software which uses a PC to control and interact with machines, e.g. laboratory equipment, robots, measuring devices and production machinery, and would like to be near the centre of operations. They will be expected to show initiative and fit in well with our staff and customers. They should be prepared to work in a dynamic team where achievement will be very well rewarded.

Vacancy for Software Engineer

Skills Required

  • Educated to degree level in any science or engineering discipline.
  • Ability to write C++ programs for control applications or demonstrate the capability to program in either C++ or Visual Basic and have a strong desire to learn. Training will be provided where necessary.
  • Knowledge of how to create and use COM objects and familiarity with Microsoft Visual C++ version 6 and .NET would be an advantage. Training will be given if required.
  • Familiarity with databases including Access, SQL Server,and Oracle would also be an advantage. Training will be given if required.
  • Familiarity with the software development life cycle and quality testing methodologies.
  • Be able to demonstrate an excellent track record, be a high achiever and have a desire to expand their horizons.

Salary £20,000 to £34,000 per annum depending upon experience.

Vacancy for Software Tester

The tester will be the only tester in the development team, so it is important that they can plan their own work and manage timescales.

Skills Required

All our work involves control of devices, or data collection from equipment.

  • Experience in testing software which is used to interact with instruments or machines
  • Use of Microsoft Word
  • Develop test plans from specifications
  • Write test scripts - follow up failures - work with developers for a fix - may require some programming knowledge for this.
  • Familiar with Windows apps and installers of (using a variety of technologies: C++, VB, COM, .NET, C#) as well as mobile devices and embedded Systems.
  • Familiar with the software development life cycle and quality testing methodologies
  • Be logical and methodical in testing and reporting bugs
  • Be able to demonstrate an excellent track record, be a high achiever and have a desire to expand their horizons
  • To have English as a first language and hold a British driving license would be an advantage

Salary £18,000 to £30,000 per annum depending upon experience.
